The Waverley
Chapel
Located at 299 Waverley Street in Thunder Bay North (formerly Port
Arthur). The closest main intersection is Red River Road and Algoma
Street, which is less than 100 yards away across a small park. Standing in
our front driveway, one can see St. Andrew's R.C. Church, First Baptist Church,
Magnus Theatre (the former Central School), Waverley Park, Trinity United
Church, the Waverley Resource Library and Conaught Park. One block east of
us on Red River Road is the start of the Port Arthur downtown area, which
includes shopping, restaurants, various services and the new casino. Two
more blocks east is Marina Park on the waterfront of Lake Superior.
Driving to the Waverley Chapel from out-of-town or the airport, the easiest
route is the Thunder Bay Expressway, or Dawson Road, to Red River Road.
Turn east towards the lake, and continue for approximately 2 miles until you
pass Waverley Park Towers, Port Arthur Collegiate and Waverley Park. At
the stop-lights at Algoma Street, you will see our building on your right.
The Westfort
Chapel
Our
Westfort Chapel is located at 420 West Gore Street, at the southeast corner of
Gore and James, in the former West Fort William area of the south side of
Thunder Bay. Across Gore Street to the north is the Mount McKay
Plaza. Directly behind us to the south are the railway tracks and the
bridge across the Kam River to Mount McKay. Gore Street runs east and
west, and is one short block south of Frederica Street which is the main
thoroughfare through Westfort.
Driving from the airport or the highway, take the Thunder Bay expressway to
Neebing Avenue (directly across from the airport), south on Neebing (towards the
mountain) to Gore Street, left on Gore to James. A total of 5 minutes from
the airport.
An
alternative route is from Arthur Street (highway 11-17 coming from the west),
turn south (towards the mountain) on James at the A&P Store. Proceed
south until just before the railway underpass and you will see the Chapel on
your left hand side.
