While flowers are beautiful, many people today wish to make memorial contributions to various charities in addition to, or as an alternative to, buying flowers.  Part of our role is to assist people in making these donations.

          Conveniently located in the main foyer area, each of our facilities has a desk where friends can sit down and complete their memorial donations.  There are over a hundred charities in our community, and rather than confuse the public with many different donation cards and styles of donation cards, for over 20 years we have used a generic card which is valid for any charity.

           We provide these generic cards, at our cost, which firstly saves the charities in printing costs.  They are a 2-part card:  after completion, one half is give to the family by the funeral home, and the other half is forwarded to the charity by the funeral home with your cheque.  This means that the family has an immediate notification of your donation, and it further saves the charities time and money by eliminating the need for them to send acknowledgements to the family for each and every individual donation.  To the best of our knowledge, we were the first firm in Thunder Bay to use such a generic card, and we find that it works very well and the charities appreciate the convenience and cost savings for them.

          For your own protection, and those of us who handle your donation, contributions made on site must be in cheque form, not cash.  We handle thousands of donations every year.  When we forward them to the charities, we sometimes place them in the mail, or hand them to a volunteer in their office, or someone that comes to us to pick them up.  Occasionally a donation does go astray, and while it may be inconvenient for the donor to re-issue a cheque, at least the money is not lost.  Our practice of cheques-only is also preferred by the charities themselves.

          If you do not have a cheque with you, we would be pleased to provide you with donation cards which you can complete at home and either send or deliver to us in the future with your cheque.  Furthermore, using our web-site, you can also make donations on-line.  Regardless of how the donation is made, both the family and the selected charity will appreciate your generosity, and there is no time limit on when such a memorial donation is made.
