Obituary for Mrs. June Rita Roy

Mrs. June Rita Roy
ROY

It is with profound sadness that the family of June Roy announce her passing on Saturday, December 2, 2017 after a lengthy battle with cancer. She passed away in hospice with loving family by her side and is now at peace.

June was born on June 2, 1935 in Elie, Manitoba. At the age of 11 her family moved to Red Rock, and she remained there until moving to Thunder Bay in 1973. June was a mother and homemaker, raising 3 children. She took great pride in her children and in her home. In her younger years she enjoyed sewing, curling, playing cards with friends, going to bingo and baking. Some of her baking specialties included cinnamon buns, butterscotch pie, and at Christmas time homemade doughnuts and New York Special. June loved her grandchildren and they loved her and they especially loved it when Nana babysat them. They have fond memories of playing bingo games for prizes, doing scratch tickets and watching movies with Nana.

June is survived by her children Patrick (Chris), Cathy (John), Pam (Mario), grandchildren Shaunna, Crystle (Ryan), Jesse (Chelsea),James, Jarren, Justin, great grandchildren Caitlyn, Chloee, Colton, Ty, Ava, Miley and Carter. Also surviving are sisters Reine, Carol (Joe), Marlene (Wayne), Shirley (Ray), and brother Lindsay (Eleanor), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her parents Alfred and Annette, sister Bernice, brother Ronnie and great grandson Liam.

We would like to thank Dr. Davis for his years of care as her family doctor and while she was in St. Joe's, along with Dr. Migay for her care during the end of her life. Thanks also to all the staff involved in her care from both the palliative and hospice units. Special thanks to nurses Ritva and Carol, social worker Debra, Dana in recreation and Shada in massage therapy.

As per June's wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no service. A private family interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens where June will be laid to rest with her parents. As expressions of sympathy, donations in June's name can be made to the Northern Cancer Fund or the Alzheimer's Society of Thunder Bay.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 332 North May Street, Thunder Bay.
