Obituary for William Edward Arvelin

William Edward Arvelin
William (Bill) Arvelin

On Saturday evening, December 2, 2017 at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital with his family by his side, William (Bill/ Papa) Arvelin,
age 65, peacefully went to be with the Lord.

A lifelong resident of Thunder Bay, Bill was born August 13, 1952. He attended Hammarskjold High where he met the love
of his life, Darlene DePaulo and they married soon after. Bill had a strong faith and was a lifelong member of Corpus Christi Roman
Catholic Church. He had many interests, loved coaching kids (hockey and baseball) and helping people but most important was
family. After working various jobs he returned to education graduating from Confederation College with diplomas in HR Management
and Industrial Relations. Bill was a tireless volunteer always willing to help. Family came first and anyone who had the good fortune
to marry into the family or simply be a friend to any of his children or grandchildren was treated like family. He was generous to a fault,
always there for his family and friends with time, money, love and support. He was so incredibly proud of everyone in his life.

Bill leaves behind so many who loved him dearly; his wife of 45 years Darlene, three children; Ed Arvelin (Colleen),
Christy Martinson (Ryan), Ben Arvelin (Julie), grandchildren; Brandon Martinson (Dakota), Miranda Martinson (Jon),
Devon Martinson, Claire and Billy Arvelin, great-grandchildren; Sophie and Ophelia Martinson. Also surviving are his
brother Victor Arvelin (Eva), sisters; Susan Benn (Ross), Judy Dickson (Bob), Sandra Leonzio (Richard), brothers and
sisters-in-law; Gary DePaulo, Judy Broughton (Kent), Ted DePaulo (Star), Edie Ingberg and Tammy Friesen (Shawn) and
their many children and grandchildren to whom he was a very special uncle and great-uncle.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ed and Eleanor Arvelin, parents-in-law, Louis and Ruth DePaulo, nephew Christopher Broughton
and numerous aunts and uncles.

A funeral service will be held at Corpus Christi Church on Friday, December 15th at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can
be made to Pro Kids or a charity of choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 332 North May Street, Thunder Bay.
