Born in Fort William, Ontario on January 31, 1947 to Joyce and Cecil Proudfoot, she was the oldest of two daughters and graduated from Fort William Collegiate in 1965. Being around her family was a blessing to her and she enjoyed camping at Arrow Lake, as well as visiting friends and watching her kids grow and flourish. A kind soul, she was always willing to help others and give a kind smile to everybody.

Janis is survived and remembered by her children Greg (Barb) Medwid and Geoff (Katariina) Medwid, grandchildren Jessica (Dustie), Nikki (Tony), Robert, Peter and Lilianna, and younger sister Michelle Proudfoot.
