Obituary for Mrs. Concetta Gallo (Piraino)

Concetta Gallo, age 87 years, passed away peacefully in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Friday, April 4, 2014 with family by her side.

Concetta (nee Piraino) was born and raised in Curinga, Cantanzaro, Italy, a town in the mountains of Calabria, to Sebestiano Piraino and Anna Desando. She married Nicola Gallo, and they came together to Canada in 1953, first to Sault Ste. Marie, and later settling permanently in Port Arthur. Concetta dedicated her life to creating a warm and welcoming home for her family and many friends. She revelled in family gatherings, and her table was always filled with magnificent meals and happy chatter. She loved spending time in the garden, shopping trips about town, and enjoyed her granddaughter's Italian dancing. She made many meatballs over the years with the Ladies of the Italian Society of Port Arthur, and was a member of the St. Anthony’s CWL for over 25 years. Concetta was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend whose kindness touched many and who always put the needs of others before her own. Last summer, she was able to visit family and friends back in Curinga, which brought her great joy.

Concetta is lovingly remembered by daughters, Annamarie Clara (Rick), Angela Prosdocimo (Tim), Patricia Dokuchie (Jerome) and dearly loved granddaughters Deanne Clara and Nicole Pereira (Chris). She was predeceased by her parents, husband Nicola in 2002, brother-in-law Aurelio Gallo, and sisters-in-law Maria Carmela Gallo, Rosa Marie Piraino and Concettina Panzarella. She is survived by sister Costanza Piraino in Curinga, brothers Nick and Peter (Lina) Piraino in Sault Ste. Marie, sisters in-law Carmelina Casoria (Pasquale) in Thunder Bay and Felicia Tummolo in Carmagniola, and brothers in-law Domenico Gallo (Franca) in Rome and Giulio Gallo (Rosetta) in Turin. Many nieces and nephews in Thunder Bay, Sault Ste Marie, and in Italy also survive.

Funeral Services for the late Mrs. Concetta Gallo will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 leaving the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley St. at Algoma at 9:50 AM to St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church for the Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM, celebrated by Father Luigi Filippini. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Everest Chapel with Vigil Prayers being offered at 7:00 PM.

If friends desire, donations made to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
